Isle of Pride is a newly formed registered charity (No.1287) and our ethos is simply PRIDE CARES Pride, Respect, Inclusion, Diversity, Equality, Community, Allies, Representation, Everyone, Support We aim to promote equality, diversity and inclusion for all regardless of gender, sexuality, colour, creed or ability. We intend to provide support guidance and advice to the Island’s substantial LGBTQ+ and wider community who feel marginalised or isolated by society or who have been rejected by their loved ones, with a particular focus on physical and mental well-being and the provision of inclusive safe spaces. The long term support and inclusion initiatives will always be the heart and soul of the charity, the island has a substantial gay community and very little in the way of inclusive spaces to go where they can be themselves without fear of prejudice or harm. Having places to go, to socialise and connect with others is vitally important to our community, particularly young people who may feel the effects of social isolation and fear of prejudice much more profoundly that those who have more freedom of movement. In addition to these inclusive initiatives we will be bringing the Island its first large scale Pride Festival in 2020! This will see a number of free and inclusive events that will celebrate, support and recognise the Island’s LGBTQ+ community and its allies.
